How a thermal roof survey works in Harringay
A thermal survey is not a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding cannot be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. If you are worried about missing or slipped insulation and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on commercial roofs, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof alike.
In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Harringay as anywhere. Let us know about the building and access when booking. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

How we price thermal roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The roof’s overall size
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Height and safe access
All our prices include VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before you book.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Anything about access we should know
- What kind of property and roof it is
- When you need the report by
- The property’s address and postcode
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Harringay: your questions answered
Is my home in Harringay listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is drone flying allowed in Harringay?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

What else we do in Harringay
What we are asked to look at in Harringay
Once a leak has been fixed, people frequently ask whether the roof is still wet. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped when the conditions on the day are suitable.
Common reasons to book include:
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
If you live in an older home near St Paul's Harringay, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. On timing, it usually takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Surveys in Harringay can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Tell us about parking before the day

Related advice
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Check outlets after heavy rain
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.
Drones, thermal imaging and Harringay roofs
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Bruce Castle lies about 1.6 miles north-east, so building around Harringay goes back a long way. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as South Harringay Infant School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
