Thermal roof survey in Hinxworth
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and people most frequently book us about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and damp around roof outlets and upstands.
Somewhere as small as Hinxworth, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Hinxworth
The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. For an older or listed building in a place like Hinxworth, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Thermal roof surveys in Hinxworth: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. With Hinxworth Place about 0.6 miles south, Hinxworth sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Hinxworth: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Hinxworth?
Yes, Hinxworth is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is Hinxworth in the area you cover?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Hinxworth is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Are you insured?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
How fast do I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
How it works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older rural homes like those around Hinxworth can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Before the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
Booking a survey
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.

What we’re asked to look at in Hinxworth
Unexplained damp is one of the main reasons people ask for thermal imaging. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. The camera helps narrow the search.
Problems we come across often include:
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Leaks that are hard to trace
If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
When you need someone else
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- An energy rating for the building
