Thermal roof surveys in Hounslow

About our thermal roof survey in Hounslow

Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we combine the camera with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access. We survey commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are water that travels before it shows and missing or slipped insulation.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Hounslow is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

How the survey works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about one to two hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a London area like Hounslow, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. We then look at whatever is safely visible from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

How to prepare

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Common questions in Hounslow

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Hounslow?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.

How do I find out if my home in Hounslow is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone can’t prove a leak.

What insurance do you have?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.

How many surveys have you done?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

When to book a survey in Hounslow

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. The Premium Survey brings thermal imaging and a drone inspection where applicable, with a report the same day, which suits a purchase that is moving quickly.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Cold spots on ceilings under the roof

Shop and office owners around Treaty Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

What a roof survey includes

How we price thermal roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Roof area
  • Height and safe access

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

What to tell us when you get in touch

Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we will recommend the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Hounslow

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Any roof job in Hounslow means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Thermal roof surveys in Hounslow: local notes

The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Hounslow. Where the drone is part of the survey, the exact boundary is checked for the address first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Hounslow is in London, so parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier, as a space near the door cannot be promised. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Chatsworth Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
