Lampton Thermal Roof Survey
A careful look at the roof at your property in Lampton, and put it all in a written report with photos.
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Cold areas below the roof
How a thermal roof survey works in Lampton
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’re worried about possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and water that travels before it shows, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Lampton as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

What we can’t see
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Proving moisture from the images alone

Thermal roof surveys in Lampton: local notes
Outer London has a good many Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Lampton. If your survey includes the drone, we check the exact boundary for the address before flying.
Parking in Lampton, as in most of London, takes a little planning: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. If you run a business near Treaty Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most.

FAQs for Lampton
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Lampton?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Lampton?
Parking in Lampton, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available as you book.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email.
Will thermal imaging find my leak?
Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it can’t be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.
What insurance do you have?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we will tell you which fits.

What we do, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a London area like Lampton, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can be seen safely from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice

What we’re asked to look at in Lampton
Once a leak has been fixed, people often ask whether the roof is still wet. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain, given suitable conditions on the day.
Common reasons to book include:
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
If you live in an older home near St Luke, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking anyone
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Will the report include photos?
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
