Thermal roof survey in Spring Grove: what you get
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We will discuss the weather with you when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. If you’re worried about gaps in loft insulation and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

FAQs for Spring Grove
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Spring Grove?
It can be, so it helps to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
How do I find out if my home in Spring Grove is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Roof by roof
GRP fibreglass roofs
Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
Airspace, weather and Spring Grove roofs
Within a mile and a half or so of Spring Grove there are several hotels. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Spring Grove. If the drone is used for your survey, the exact boundary is checked for the address first.
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Spring Grove, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use. With Osterley House about 0.7 miles north-west, the area around Spring Grove has a long history. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Spring Grove
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Stains that keep coming back
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Spring Grove, along with any off-street space.
Before booking any roof surveyor

- What experience they bring
- Is VAT included in the price?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
Checking the roof from ground level
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What we can’t see
We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Proving moisture from the images alone
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

How it works
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. From the street, a London terrace typically shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Spring Grove we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
How to book
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether that’s asking for work or discussing the price.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.
