Thermal roof surveys near Kingsmead

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Kingsmead

On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. This can give an idea of how far water has travelled beneath the membrane, which is hard to judge by eye. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. We survey loft conversions, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof, and people most frequently book us about damp patches with no obvious cause and ceilings that feel colder in places.

In a village or hamlet like Kingsmead, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Kingsmead

If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

If you look after a building such as Swanmore College of Technology, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Common roof problems in Kingsmead

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report, which helps when timescales are tight.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places

Around Kingsmead, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What a roof survey includes

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Roof by roof

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below frequently show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. The camera can help show where to look.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Kingsmead

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What we need to know

There is no need for technical words. It is enough to let us know:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Kingsmead, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Questions from Kingsmead

Is Kingsmead within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Kingsmead is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Are you insured?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Outbuildings and barns around Kingsmead are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
