Woodend Thermal Roof Survey

Thermal roof surveys across Woodend, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.

  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Heat escaping through the roof

Thermal roof survey in Woodend

Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. It works best when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. Typical surveys look at areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and water getting in at parapets and stacks, on insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and loft conversions.

Older buildings in small places like Woodend may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof

Common questions in Woodend

Do you cover smaller places like Woodend?

Yes, Woodend is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Is Woodend in the area you cover?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Woodend is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Can a thermal camera see water?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

What happens after the survey?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Woodend?

Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, particularly when it is warm inside and cold outside.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands

Anyone responsible for a site like Swanmore College of Technology will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to check before booking

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection

What’s in a roof survey

Checking the roof from the ground

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Height and safe access
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • How big the roof is

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

What to tell us when you get in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

What we do, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Woodend can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Booking a survey

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Every price we give includes VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Airspace, weather and Woodend roofs

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
