Thermal roof survey in Langdon Hills: what you get

Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you’ve noticed wet insulation beneath the membrane and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof alike.

Places like Langdon Hills can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Langdon Hills, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Leave it or get it looked at?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Around Langdon Hills, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the exact price before booking.

Questions from Langdon Hills

Do you cover Langdon Hills?

Yes, Langdon Hills is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.

Is Langdon Hills within the area you cover?

Yes, Langdon Hills is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

How soon will I get the report?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Langdon Hills?

Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.

A survey can pick up problems like:

  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands
  • Water that travels before it shows

Anyone responsible for a site like Lincewood Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to expect from a roof survey

Thermal roof surveys in Langdon Hills: local notes

Langdon Hills is within about 5 miles of the coast. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Eastgate Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Langdon Hills is about 2 miles south-west of Basildon, in Essex. We carry out thermal roof surveys for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Langdon Hills and the surrounding area. DIY checks: what’s safe

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Talk to us about the weather when booking

Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.
