Thermal roof survey in Great Berry: what you get
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. If you’ve noticed areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and water that travels before it shows, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions alike.
Around Great Berry, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Homes around Great Berry often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Before the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Why get it checked now?
A damp patch that keeps coming back typically has a cause that hasn’t been found. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. Blocked gutters on homes around Great Berry overflow and soak walls, particularly where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Drones, thermal imaging and Great Berry roofs
Great Berry lies within about 5 miles of the sea. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.
If you run a business near Eastgate Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Take a building like Great Berry Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. For an older house near a landmark such as St John, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Great Berry is about 2 miles west of Basildon, in Essex. Great Berry is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Essex, large and small. Our Chelmsford page covers surveys nearby.
Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: SS16, SS15 and CM13. Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
- File the images with your roof records
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
- Photograph damp patches with the date
If you are buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. What you do with it is up to you, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof, when the conditions are suitable.
How we price thermal roof surveys
We confirm the price for your survey before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- The size of the roof
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.
What we need to know
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- What made you get in touch
- The address and postcode of the property
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Great Berry questions
Do you carry out roof surveys in Great Berry?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Great Berry?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Honest limits
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

- Loft conversions
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
Different roofs, different checks
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Thermal images of a pitched roof can still show heat loss patterns and some damp areas. We explain what can and can’t be read from them.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
