Longmoor Thermal Roof Survey

- Water that travels before it shows
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
How a thermal roof survey works in Longmoor
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks frequently run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. We survey flat roofs, loft conversions and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
Older buildings in small places like Longmoor may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we cannot see
We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
Prices for thermal roof surveys in Longmoor
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Which survey package you book
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Height and safe access
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- The property’s address and postcode
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
The survey, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes between one and two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Longmoor, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before we arrive
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
Getting a price
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.
Advice
Common roof problems in Longmoor
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
Anyone responsible for a site like Greatham Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Will the report include photos?
- How soon the report will arrive
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
Can I check my roof myself?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.
Common questions in Longmoor
Do you cover smaller places like Longmoor?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Longmoor?
Yes, Longmoor is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
What does the report include?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Thermal roof surveys around Longmoor
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Around Longmoor, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.
