About our thermal roof survey in Lower Froyle
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you are worried about areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and leaks that are hard to trace, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Lower Froyle, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Thermal roof surveys around Lower Froyle
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary of the Assumption: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Which survey package you book
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The size of the roof
Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before you book.
Booking your survey
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- What made you get in touch
- The property’s address and postcode
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
When to book a survey in Lower Froyle
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Stains that keep coming back
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Cold areas below the roof
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
In and around Lower Froyle, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.
Questions to ask before you book
- What they will not be able to tell you
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
Lower Froyle questions
Is my home in Lower Froyle listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Lower Froyle?
Yes, Lower Froyle is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
What conditions are best for thermal imaging?
The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.
How it works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like Lower Froyle needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before we arrive
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Tips that help
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. There is a 12-month follow-up too.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

What this survey cannot tell you
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- An energy rating for the building
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Ceilings below the roof
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
DIY checks: what’s safe
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
