Book a thermal roof survey in Martyr Worthy

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs. On timing, most surveys take about 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a small place like Martyr Worthy, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Martyr Worthy

Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we combine the camera with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access. We are often asked to look into missing or slipped insulation and water that travels before it shows, across pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs.

Some older homes in villages like Martyr Worthy are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Martyr Worthy

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Take a building like Itchen Abbas Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. The streets around a church like Church of St Swithin are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Roof area

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. It helps to include:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What kind of property and roof it is

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.

We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Practical tips

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Heat the home normally on the days before
  • Make sure the loft can be reached safely
  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing

After the visit, we put the thermal images, photographs and moisture readings into one report. Each image is explained in plain words, alongside what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water doesn’t sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

Common questions in Martyr Worthy

Do you cover smaller places like Martyr Worthy?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Is my home in Martyr Worthy listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What’s in the survey report?

A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, and we check them with moisture readings.
