Thermal roof surveys in Neithrop

Honest limits

Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

About our thermal roof survey in Neithrop

What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. It’s useful to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast when you book, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. If you’re worried about damp patches with no obvious cause and leaks that are hard to trace, we can find out what’s behind it, on pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions alike.

Older cottages and houses around Neithrop may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What we look for on each type of roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. The camera can help show where to look.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.

Checking the roof from ground level

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Common questions in Neithrop

Do you carry out roof surveys in Neithrop?

Yes, Neithrop is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Neithrop?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

What happens next?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.

What’s in the report?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

What happens on the day

We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. For a survey in Neithrop, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Why it’s worth a survey now in Neithrop

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. Blocked gutters on homes around Neithrop overflow and soak walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

Airspace, weather and Neithrop roofs

With Broughton Castle about 1.8 miles south-west, Neithrop sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For hotels and guest houses around Neithrop, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. For an older house near a landmark such as St Paul's Church Centre, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Castle Quay Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.
