Thermal roof survey in Ockley: what you get

Thermal imaging is frequently most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. Typical surveys look at cold spots on ceilings under the roof and missing or slipped insulation, across commercial roofs, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces.

Villages like Ockley often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

How we price thermal roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The size of the roof
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Getting in touch

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

Ockley: your questions answered

Is Ockley in the area you cover?

Yes, Ockley is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Do you cover smaller places like Ockley?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Will the camera show exactly where the water is?

Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

How do I book a survey in Ockley?

It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as Ockley, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Different roofs, different checks

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are often hidden. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Slate and tile roofs are frequently harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.

When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Thermal roof surveys in Ockley: local notes

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. In Surrey, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Whatever the street in Ockley, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Ockley is about 6 miles north of Horsham, in Surrey. Ockley is part of the area we cover as part of our work across London and the South East. We cover towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages. We also survey roofs in Crawley.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

When to book a survey in Ockley

Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Stains that keep coming back
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands
  • Missing or slipped insulation

For an older house near a landmark such as St John's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
