Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Redhill
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’ve noticed leaks far from where the stain appears and damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a town like Redhill, the roofs that are hardest to see are often on taller buildings, steep slopes or the backs of terraces. Close-up drone photos and thermal images show what binoculars from the pavement cannot. Each needs the right weather. A typical example is the rear slope over a back addition, which can’t be seen from the street.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Different roofs, different checks
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We take that into account and check findings with moisture readings.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Felt and asphalt roofs frequently show wet areas as patches that differ from the rest. We check those patches with moisture readings.
Drones, thermal imaging and Redhill roofs
The flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome covers Redhill, or comes right up to its edge. If your survey includes the drone, permission from the aerodrome is needed first, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. In Surrey, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
If you run a business near The Belfry, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Saint Matthew's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Anyone responsible for a site like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Which survey package you book
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- What made you get in touch
- The kind of building and roof involved
We confirm the price for your survey before you book, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, with our recommendations. Premium reports are sent the same day.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs. On timing, most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Most visits in a town like Redhill start at the front of the house and work round to the back. The back garden is often where extensions, dormers and rear slopes are best seen. Then, if it can be reached safely, we look in the loft.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Related advice
Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Redhill
Is Redhill in the area you cover?
Yes, Redhill is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.
Is drone flying allowed in Redhill?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Redhill is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome. We ask the aerodrome for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you as you book.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The report follows by email.
