Thermal roof survey in Park Farm
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings don’t rely on the camera alone. Typical surveys look at gaps in loft insulation and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, on flat roofs, commercial roofs and loft conversions.
Even in a smaller place like Park Farm, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Being in a smaller place like Park Farm doesn’t change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

What we cannot see
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we look at
- Loft conversions
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
Common questions in Park Farm
Do you carry out roof surveys in Park Farm?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
How do I find out if my home in Park Farm is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How long does the survey take?
It typically takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. We will confirm the timing as you book.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

Why act early in Park Farm
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, instead of trying repair after repair. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Park Farm, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Roof by roof
Loft insulation
Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
What you can safely check yourself
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Drones, thermal imaging and Park Farm roofs
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. The wider area around Park Farm has a long history of building, with Godinton House about 3.1 miles north-west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Michael, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Shop and office owners around Ashford Designer Outlet may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Take a building like Kingsnorth Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Before and after the survey
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Because the images are paired with photos, it’s easy to find each area on the roof.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
