Thermal roof surveys in Parkgate: local notes

Parkgate is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Gatwick Airport. If your survey includes the drone, the exact boundary is checked for the address first. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Whatever the street in Parkgate, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early. Around Parkgate, each roof gets the same safe, thorough look, and the findings in plain words.

Parkgate is about 4 miles south-east of Dorking, in Surrey. Wherever you are in Parkgate, we can carry out thermal roof surveys at your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Parkgate is one of the places in Surrey we cover for thermal roof surveys. Crawley is in our area too.

About our thermal roof survey in Parkgate

A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. If you are worried about cold spots on ceilings under the roof and damp patches with no obvious cause, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Some older homes in villages like Parkgate are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Questions from Parkgate

Is Parkgate within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is drone flying allowed in Parkgate?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around Gatwick Airport comes within about 2 miles of Parkgate. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Parkgate?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on any day of the week.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.

Roof by roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We take that into account and check findings with moisture readings.

Loft insulation

In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there’s safe access.

What happens on the day

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Around Parkgate, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

How to prepare

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • Check we can get to the back of the property

How to book

When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.

For landlords and managing agents

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Why get it checked now?

Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Parkgate, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. You will know the exact price before booking.
