Independent thermal roof surveys in Perivale

Thermal roof survey in Perivale: what you get

A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. Common reasons to book are heat escaping through the roof and moisture around outlets and upstands, on pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and insulated roof spaces.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at, in Perivale as anywhere. Tell us about the building and access when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What you can safely check yourself

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.

What this survey cannot tell you

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • A formal energy assessment

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Drones, thermal imaging and Perivale roofs

Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. If your home in Perivale is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. The wider area around Perivale has a long history of building, with Pitzhanger Manor about 2 miles south. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to St. Mary with St. Nicholas - Perivale: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Take a building like St John Fisher Catholic Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. For a London address like Perivale, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day.

Roof by roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Helping us price your survey

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Perivale moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Book a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Perivale questions

Is parking a problem for a survey in Perivale?

Parking in Perivale, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Perivale is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How many surveys have you done?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

Can a thermal camera see water?

Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, and moisture readings are used to check it.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
