Thermal imaging roof survey in North Wembley, Greater London
A careful look at the roof at your property in North Wembley, and put it all in a written report with photos.
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
How a thermal roof survey works in North Wembley
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp is not obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings do not rely on the camera alone. We survey ceilings below the roof, loft conversions and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are cold areas below the roof and wet areas near outlets and upstands.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Airspace, weather and North Wembley roofs
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Outer London has a good many Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. If your home in North Wembley is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
For hotels and guest houses around North Wembley, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. As a London address, North Wembley can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway as you book, as a space near the door can’t be promised. Shop and office owners around London Designer Outlet may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Why get it checked now?
Before replacing a large flat roof, it’s useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

North Wembley questions
Is parking a problem for a survey in North Wembley?
It rarely stops a survey, but it’s worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
How do I find out if my home in North Wembley is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
What will the report tell me?
A photo-illustrated written report, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Do you work in North Wembley?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes North Wembley.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
The weather makes a real difference. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
What we cannot see
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- An energy rating for the building
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Before and after the survey
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- File the images with your roof records
- Photograph damp patches with the date
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There’s a 12-month follow-up too.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
Roof by roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. That makes the survey more focused.
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs. On timing, it usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. For a visit in North Wembley, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space and from the roof where it is safe.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
