Thermal roof surveys in Sudbury

Common questions in Sudbury

Are there drone restrictions around Sudbury?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Sudbury?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

Thermal roof survey in Sudbury: what you get

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey ceilings below the roof, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cold areas below the roof and wet insulation beneath the membrane.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Sudbury, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Flying and imaging in Sudbury

Sudbury has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near London Designer Outlet, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Andrew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For hotels and guest houses around Sudbury, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

Sudbury is about 1 mile south-west of Wembley, in Greater London. Whether the building in Sudbury is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. Across Greater London, we cover Sudbury. London is in our area too.

We cover every part of HA0, UB6 and HA1 for thermal roof surveys. We cover properties on Elms Lane, Harrow Road and Perrin Road and the roads around them. Sudbury sits on or near the A4005, which makes travel easy. Landlord and commercial surveys in Sudbury

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Sudbury. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Roof by roof

Loft insulation

Insulation frequently gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Inside the roof space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Honest limits

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs

How the survey works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Otherwise, the visit in Sudbury runs like any other.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice

Why it’s worth a survey now in Sudbury

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

DIY checks: what’s safe

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
