Thermal imaging roof survey in Roughway, Kent
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Roughway and across Kent, with plain-English findings.
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Cold areas below the roof
- Gaps in loft insulation
How a thermal roof survey works in Roughway
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’ve noticed damp around roof outlets and upstands and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on ceilings below the roof, flat roofs and commercial roofs alike.
Older buildings in small places like Roughway may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
What we look at
- Insulated roof spaces
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Roughway
Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
With Old Soar Manor about 0.7 miles north, the area around Roughway has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Roughway
Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, particularly when it is warm inside and cold outside.
People usually book a survey after spotting one of these:
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Water that travels before it shows
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
Take a building like Hadlow Rural Community School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- When you will get the report
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- What exactly goes into their report
What you can safely check yourself
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Common questions in Roughway
Do you carry out roof surveys in Roughway?
Yes, Roughway is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Roughway as anywhere else.
Will you come out to Roughway?
Yes. Roughway is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take an hour or two at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We will confirm the timing when booking.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
How the survey changes by roof type
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are often hidden. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.
The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Rural addresses near Roughway can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
How to prepare
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
