Russell's Green Thermal Roof Survey
Independent thermal roof surveys in Russell's Green. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
- Stains that keep coming back
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
Checking the roof from ground level
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
Thermal roof survey in Russell's Green: what you get
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. Typical surveys look at damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and missing or slipped insulation, on pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and loft conversions.
Somewhere as small as Russell's Green, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Russell's Green questions
Do you cover Russell's Green?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Russell's Green as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you cover smaller places like Russell's Green?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
How soon will I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Basic, Standard or Premium
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Helping us price your survey
These details help when you contact us:

The survey, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes between one and two hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Russell's Green, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
How to prepare
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Advice
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Russell's Green
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Look out for signs like these:
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Whether VAT is added on top
What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. We check those patches with moisture readings.
Flying and imaging in Russell's Green
Russell's Green is within about 3 miles of the coast. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Anyone responsible for a site like Ninfield Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
