What we do, step by step
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It normally takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. For a village or hamlet like Russell's Green, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- We look at the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Before the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Storm damage roof report in Russell's Green: what you get
Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems like corroded nails or worn mortar. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. How the policy applies is for your insurer to decide. We survey gutters and fascias, slate and tile slopes and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about water coming in after the storm and torn or lifted flat roof coverings.
Somewhere as small as Russell's Green, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:
- Check how your policy defines a storm
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Check the roof from the ground after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Never climb onto the roof yourself.
Russell's Green roofs and the weather
The coast is about 3 miles or less from Russell's Green, where storms can bring strong gusts off the sea. What counts as a storm is set by each policy, often gusts of around 55 mph, and the insurer makes the decision. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Mary, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. Anyone responsible for a site like Ninfield Church of England Primary School will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Homes near green spaces such as Highwoods can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- A price for the repairs
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

What you can safely check yourself
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Why get it checked now?
Damage left open lets in more rain. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. For an older or listed building in a place like Russell's Green, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Russell's Green
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Russell's Green, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details like ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Russell's Green is within about 3 miles of the coast.
Is Russell's Green within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Stay off the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. We record the damage, with photos and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. It does not include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for those.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof, which you can pass to your insurer.
