Salfords Thermal Roof Survey
Know where you stand with the roof before you spend money on it. We carry out thermal roof surveys in Salfords, with photographs and a clear written report.
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
What we can’t see
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Confirming water without moisture readings
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Salfords
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We are often asked to look into moisture around outlets and upstands and water getting in at parapets and stacks, across commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and insulated roof spaces.
In a village or hamlet like Salfords, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Why act early in Salfords
Repeated repairs that do not stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, rather than more guesswork. In a small place like Salfords, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
Why us?

For landlords and managing agents
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Salfords, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
How to prepare
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
How to book
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.

Salfords: your questions answered
Is my home in Salfords listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is drone flying allowed in Salfords?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Salfords is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome. Before any flight there, we ask the aerodrome for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Roof by roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Water often gets in where roofs meet walls, parapets or valley gutters. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.
Common roof problems in Salfords
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Salfords Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
What to check before booking
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Will the report include photos?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What they won’t be able to tell you
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Salfords
An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
The streets around a church like Christ the King are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If you run a business near The Belfry, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most.
