Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Stone

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof, and people most often book us about possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and leaks far from where the stain appears.

Older buildings in small places like Stone may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Around Stone, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

How to prepare

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Different roofs, different checks

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are frequently hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they can’t.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Stone

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stone?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you cover smaller places like Stone?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Stone

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • How big the roof is
  • Which survey package you book
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. Older cottages and farmhouses around Stone can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:

  • An energy rating for the building
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

Drones, thermal imaging and Stone roofs

The coast is about 1 mile or less from Stone, and coastal wind can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.

If you live in an older home near St Francis, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. Beaulieu Palace House lies about 4.4 miles north-west, so building around Stone goes back a long way. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Stone is about 3 miles north-west of Cowes, in Hampshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Stone can all book thermal roof surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Our Hampshire coverage includes Stone and the places around it. There is also a page for Southampton.

Nearby, we also carry out thermal roof surveys in Gurnard (3 miles south-east), Cowes (3 miles south-east), Rew Street (4 miles south), Northwood (4 miles south-east) and Great Thorness (4 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Gosport (9 miles east), Eastleigh (12 miles north), Fareham (8 miles north-east), Totton (11 miles north-west), Chandler's Ford (13 miles north) and Hedge End (9 miles north).
