Thermal roof survey in Tangley

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you’re worried about missing or slipped insulation and leaks that are hard to trace, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on loft conversions, pitched roof slopes and insulated roof spaces alike.

Some older homes in villages like Tangley are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What you can safely check yourself

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • An energy rating for the building
  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces

What happens if roof problems are left?

Buyers get extra information from thermal images that the eye can miss. Hidden problems found before exchange can be raised with the seller or agent. In a place like Tangley, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Airspace, weather and Tangley roofs

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

Around Tangley, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Tangley

Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. Patterns can point to wet areas and show which parts look sound, so we know where to take moisture readings.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places

The streets around a church such as Church of St Thomas of Canterbury are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Are they insured for the work?

What a good roof survey covers

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Tangley

Is Tangley in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.

Is Tangley within the area you cover?

Yes, Tangley is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

The weather makes a real difference. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?

It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there is safe access.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

How the survey works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Tangley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

How to book
