- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Water that travels before it shows
Thermal roof survey in Temple Fortune: what you get
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof, and people most often book us about stains that keep coming back and water that travels before it shows.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Temple Fortune, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

What this survey can’t tell you
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Proving moisture from the images alone
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Pitched roof slopes
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
The survey, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Surveys in Temple Fortune can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Check pets are kept safely away

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Temple Fortune
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Temple Fortune?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.
How do I find out if my home in Temple Fortune is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
It often helps show where to look. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone can’t prove a leak.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Before and after the survey
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Do not switch the heating off ahead of the visit
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.
Thermal roof surveys in Temple Fortune: local notes
In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Garden Suburb Infant School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For a London address like Temple Fortune, it’s useful to know about controlled parking before the day.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Temple Fortune
Once a leak has been fixed, people frequently ask whether the roof is still wet. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped when the conditions on the day are suitable.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Water that travels before it shows
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Missing or slipped insulation
For businesses in and around places such as Brent Cross Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether you get a written report with photos
