Vernham Street Thermal Roof Survey
Need a thermal roof survey in Vernham Street? We can help, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Tips from our surveys
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
How a thermal roof survey works in Vernham Street
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey insulated roof spaces, ceilings below the roof and commercial roofs, and people most often book us about possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Vernham Street are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

What we can’t see
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Proving moisture from the images alone
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Questions from Vernham Street
Do you cover smaller places like Vernham Street?
Yes, Vernham Street is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How do I find out if my home in Vernham Street is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
How long does the survey take?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. We will confirm the timing as you book.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. We check what it shows with moisture readings.
Airspace, weather and Vernham Street roofs
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Stargroves, about 4.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Vernham Street. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like Vernham Dean Gillum's Church of England Primary School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
Roof by roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are often hidden. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.
What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Vernham Street, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Note where any stains or damp appear
