Thermal imaging roof survey in World's End, Greater London
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for World's End and the rest of Greater London. Surveys run seven days a week.
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Missing or slipped insulation
Thermal roof survey in World's End
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We’ll discuss the weather with you when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. If you are worried about missing or slipped insulation and moisture around outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in World's End as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What you can safely check yourself
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
Why get it checked now?
Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

Airspace, weather and World's End roofs
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Grange Park Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Historic houses such as Forty Hall, about 2.4 miles north-east, show how far back building around World's End goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- An energy rating for the building
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Confirming water without moisture readings

How the survey works
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In World's End, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when booking.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Check pets are kept safely away

Tips that help
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. Each image is explained in plain words, with our recommendations. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.
Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
Your questions about thermal roof surveys in World's End
Can you fly a drone over a roof in World's End?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in World's End?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when booking.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
It records surface temperature across the roof. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, and we check them with moisture readings.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- How big the roof is
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Getting in touch
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
