What we’re asked to look at in World's End
Leaves are behind most blocked gutters. Nearby trees drop leaves, twigs and seeds into gutters every autumn and the debris builds up at the outlets. Once an outlet is choked, the gutter fills and overflows.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Joints that drip after rain
If you live in an older home near St Peter's Church, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in World's End
Leaves, moss and silt are the usual reasons gutters block. Homes close to trees fill their gutters faster and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. We note where gutters are clogged or holding water, which outlets and hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. The photographs show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off but it rarely improves. If you’ve noticed gutters overflowing in heavy rain and gutters packed with leaves or moss, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on downpipes, eaves gutters and fascias and soffits alike.
London has a great many flats in converted houses and purpose-built blocks, so roofs are frequently shared between several households. Whoever looks after the building needs a clear picture of the roof, chimneys and gutters, in World's End as anywhere. A defect on a shared roof can reach more than one flat. A report gives everyone the same picture to plan from, with photos.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Gutter surveys around World's End
Outer London has a good many Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. About 2.4 miles north-east lies Forty Hall, a reminder of how long the area around World's End has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take a building like Grange Park Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. For landlords with property near Grange Park station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys
We confirm the price for the job before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- The size of the roof
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Basic, Standard or Premium
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT.
Getting in touch
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to let us know:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can I check my roof myself?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
Landlords, agents and block managers in World's End
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.

World's End: your questions answered
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in World's End?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Grange Park station?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.
Do you cover World's End?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, World's End included.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Does the season matter for a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Before the wetter months gives you time to plan any work though problems frequently show up after heavy rain.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Do you survey underground drains?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground down to where the downpipes reach the ground. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we will tell you.
How the survey works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes an hour or two at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Otherwise, the visit in World's End runs like any other.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Note where any stains or damp appear
How to book

Box and secret gutters
Secret gutters are hidden under the edge of the roof covering and is easy to overlook. We check what’s visible and note what isn’t.
Cast iron gutters
Lots of period homes still have cast iron rainwater goods. They last well when painted but corrode once the paint wears off.
