Prices for chimney surveys in Filmore Hill

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Helping us price your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

You can call us seven days a week. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Chimney survey in Filmore Hill

Each stack is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, nearby windows and higher points, and the loft space where it is safe. With our Premium Survey, a drone inspection is included where applicable. If we cannot see part of the stack, the report makes that clear. Each defect is recorded with a photo and a plain description. If you’re worried about spalled or crumbling bricks and lifted or split lead flashings, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

FAQs for Filmore Hill

Is my home in Filmore Hill listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you cover Filmore Hill?

Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Filmore Hill is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

What will the report tell me?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Do you need to go on the roof to check the chimney?

Each stack is viewed from the safest viewpoints: the ground, nearby windows and higher points, and the roof space. Our Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies. If part of a stack cannot be seen, the report says so.

Is it a problem to have an unused chimney?

A redundant chimney needs looking after like any other. If it is capped without ventilation, damp can build up inside. We check how it’s capped and its condition, so you can plan what to do with it.

What a chimney survey looks like in Filmore Hill

The wider area around Filmore Hill has a long history of building, with Hinton Ampner House about 4.2 miles west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.

If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A damp chimney breast seldom dries out until the cause is found. It can stain walls and damage plaster. Knowing whether it is the flaunching, flashings, brickwork or ventilation means the right fix can be planned. Around Filmore Hill, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Check your stacks from ground level after strong winds
  • Have the flue swept and checked if you use the fire
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Check that disused chimneys can still breathe

If the stack is shared, you can pass the report to your neighbour. The photos show the problem and which side it’s on, as far as we could see.

Look at your chimneys from the ground now and then, particularly after strong winds. With binoculars, you can often see cracked flaunching or lifted lead.

What this survey can’t tell you

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Hidden damage within the stack
  • Structural calculations for a leaning stack
  • The inside of the flue, which needs a sweep or flue specialist

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Brick chimney stacks
  • Flaunching
  • Chimney breasts
  • Lead flashings
  • Chimney pots and cowls
  • Shared and party-wall stacks

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Filmore Hill frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. First you let us know about the chimneys, any damp on the chimney breasts and any worries.
  2. We inspect each stack from safe viewpoints outside.
  3. We check and photograph the pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
  4. We check the chimney breasts and the stack in the loft space where we can reach them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and our recommendations.
