Common questions in Titchfield Park
Is my home in Titchfield Park listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you cover smaller places like Titchfield Park?
Yes, Titchfield Park is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it’s safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
How long does the survey take?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can you find out why my chimney breast is damp?
There are a few common causes: cracked flaunching, worn pointing, failed flashings, uncapped pots, or damp trapped in an unventilated stack. Our survey checks each of these and records the likely cause.
How a chimney survey works in Titchfield Park
Redundant chimneys are common, particularly where fires have been replaced by central heating. Even when it is not used, a stack has to stay weathertight. Capping a stack without ventilation can trap moisture and lead to damp inside. We check how redundant stacks have been capped and look for damp in the chimney breasts. The report sets out what we found and what we recommend. We survey chimney breasts, chimney pots and cowls and flaunching, and people most frequently book us about a stack that appears to lean and unused flues sealed without airflow.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, as part of a look at the roof around the stack. Rural addresses near Titchfield Park can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- Each stack is inspected from safe positions outside.
- Pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked and photographed.
- We look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft space.
- The report, with photos and recommendations, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Roof area
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Booking your survey
These details help when you get in touch:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The property’s address and postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Can I check my roof myself?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
Honest limits
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Checks on boilers, fires or their flues
- Hidden damage within the stack
- Structural calculations for a leaning stack
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Chimney breasts and the loft
If a chimney breast has been removed below, we note what we can see of the support above. A structural engineer should confirm whether it’s adequate.
Chimney pots and cowls
On redundant flues, we check how the pots are capped. Capping without ventilation can trap moisture.
What a chimney survey looks like in Titchfield Park
The coast is about 3 miles or less from Titchfield Park, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Anthony's Catholic Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Fareham Shopping Centre, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. If you own a rental within reach of Swanwick station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
