Well Chimney Survey
Find out the condition of the chimney stack at your property in Well from an independent roof surveyor. Visits run on weekdays and weekends, in the daytime.
- Unused flues sealed without airflow
- Signs that a stack is leaning
- Worn or missing pointing
What this survey cannot tell you
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Parts of the stack that can’t be seen safely or belong to a neighbour we can’t access
- Checks on boilers, fires or their flues
- Conditions inside walls
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Chimney survey in Well
On terraced and semi-detached houses, a chimney stack is often shared with next door. We check everything that’s safely in view and what the owner gives us access to. If a defect appears to be on the neighbour’s side, we note it and you can then discuss it with them. You get a written report with photos and what we recommend. We survey chimney pots and cowls, brick chimney stacks and flaunching, and common reasons people get in touch are frost-damaged brickwork on the stack and gaps in the mortar around the pots.
Some older homes in villages like Well are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

For landlords and managing agents
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes about one to two hours at a house, as part of a look at the roof around the stack. In a small place like Well, access is usually the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- We look at every stack from wherever it can safely be seen.
- Pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked and photographed.
- Inside, the chimney breasts and the loft are checked for damp where there is access.
- The report, with photographs and recommendations, is emailed to you.
Before the survey
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Well: your questions answered
Can a landlord with a rental near Bentley (Hampshire) station book a roof survey?
Yes, landlords and letting agents book with us as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.
How do I find out if my home in Well is listed?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
What’s in the report?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
How experienced are you?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If you’re buying, find out about the stacks before you exchange. Once you’ve exchanged, the work is down to you. Our report gives you facts to raise with the seller or agent. Around Well, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
What you get with us
- An independent view of the roof
- Insured for professional indemnity and public liability
- 5,000+ surveys completed
- Satisfaction rate of 98%
Local roofs in Well
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Historic houses such as Farnham Castle, about 4.8 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Well goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Anyone responsible for a site like Lord Wandsworth College will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Lord Wandsworth College Chapel, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
When to book a survey in Well
Aerials and dishes are often fixed to stacks. Their weight and the wind on them can loosen bricks and pointing. Any fixings on the stack are checked and recorded.
Look out for signs like these:
- Unused flues sealed without airflow
- Gaps in the mortar around the pots
- Spalled or crumbling bricks
- Worn or missing pointing
Landlords with a home close to Bentley (Hampshire) station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.
