About our drone roof survey in Aldrington
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In smaller places like Aldrington, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Practical tips
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Let us know what you want to see
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Book early if you are near an airport
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.
Roofs we survey in Aldrington
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Common roof problems in Aldrington
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Lifted or split lead flashings
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Hove Junior School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Aldrington
Is Aldrington within the area you cover?
Yes, Aldrington is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Are there drone restrictions around Aldrington?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
What’s in the survey report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.

Drone roof surveys in Aldrington: local notes
Aldrington is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. About 1.4 miles north-west lies Portslade Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Aldrington has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Shop and office owners around Churchill Square may find that large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera. The streets around a church such as St Philip's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

How the survey works
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Aldrington is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We will say if a specialist is needed.
Why act early in Aldrington
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Around Aldrington, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
