How a drone roof survey works in Brighton and Hove
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. Typical surveys look at hidden gutters full of leaves and lead work pulling away at abutments, across flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks.
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How our prices work
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Drone roof surveys across Brighton and Hove: local notes
Weather matters for both drones and thermal imaging across Brighton and Hove: a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day with little wind.
London and South East England mix slate and clay tile roofs on older homes with concrete tiles on many later ones. That variety shapes every survey in Brighton and Hove. In the coastal parts of Brighton and Hove, the seaward side of a roof takes the most weather, and that is where ridges, verges and flashings typically show it first.
Brighton: Shop and office owners around Churchill Square may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. Take a building like Fairlight Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
What you can safely check yourself
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Height and safe access
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
What to let us know when you get in touch
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The property’s address and postcode
- What kind of property and roof it is
We confirm the price for the job before you book, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Let us know what you want to see
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.
Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
What this survey can’t tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Signs you need a drone roof survey
Many roofs are never seen properly from ground level. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Wind damage high on the roof
