Drone roof surveys near Preston

How a drone roof survey works in Preston

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and loose ridge and hip tiles.

Around Preston, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Questions from Preston

Do you cover smaller places like Preston?

Yes, Preston is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Is my home in Preston listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first, which can add time. Allow a little extra time if your home is close to an airport.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

In some places, only with permission. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is usually out of view. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Blocked gutters on homes around Preston overflow and soak walls. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Common roof problems in Preston

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

We’re frequently asked to look at:

  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

For businesses in and around places such as Churchill Square, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

What a roof survey includes

Drones, thermal imaging and Preston roofs

Preston is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Preston Manor & Gardens, about 0.2 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Preston. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Preston, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use.

Preston is about 1 mile north-west of Brighton, in Brighton and Hove. Wherever you are in Preston, we can come and survey your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Our Brighton and Hove coverage includes Preston.

Drone roof surveys in BN1, BN3 and BN88 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Streets in the area include Home Road, Bates Road and Loder Road, all of which we cover. Prices for drone roof surveys in Preston

We confirm the price for your roof before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • Which survey package you book
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Height and safe access
  • House, block, shop or office

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

We will usually ask about:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • What’s prompted the survey

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. A visit to a smaller place like Preston is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
