Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Westdene

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed chimney tops in poor condition and flashings that have come away, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Places like Westdene can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

What we do, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a smaller place like Westdene, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Honest limits

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

Useful tips for Westdene property owners

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

FAQs for Westdene

Is drone flying allowed in Westdene?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Will you come out to Westdene?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.

What’s the best way to book?

Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It depends on the weather and the survey. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

What happens after the survey?

You will get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

Drone roof surveys around Westdene

Westdene is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Ascension, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Historic houses such as Preston Manor & Gardens, about 1.3 miles south-east, show how far back building around Westdene goes. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Westdene

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Roof area
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Booking your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Common roof problems in Westdene

Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs

Take a building like Westdene Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
