Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hanover

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about eroded pointing on a chimney stack and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Places like Hanover can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

How the survey works

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a survey in Hanover, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

How to book

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

Can I check my roof myself?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Hanover: your questions answered

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hanover?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I find out if my home in Hanover is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions aren’t right, we will talk to you about another date.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only if it’s safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Useful tips for Hanover property owners

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photographs of every part we can see. That helps you put the work in order. Blocked gutters on homes around Hanover overflow and soak walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Drones, thermal imaging and Hanover roofs

Hanover is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Hanover has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

Anyone responsible for a site like Elm Grove Primary School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. For hotels and guest houses around Hanover, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Royal Pavilion lies about 0.6 miles south-west, so building around Hanover goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.
