Storm damage roof report in Hanover: what you get
After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. If you are worried about loose or torn flashings and damaged flat roof membrane, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Around Hanover, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, at the flashings, the pointing or the mortar round the pots. Damp in a chimney breast can have more than one cause, so it isn’t always obvious where it starts. The stack, its flashings and the loft space beside it are all worth checking.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- Estimates of repair costs
- The outcome of a claim

Hanover roofs and the weather
Hanover is within about 1 mile of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain finds any gap they leave, while salt slowly corrodes metal fixings and flashings. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Churchill Square, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. Homes near green spaces such as Queen's Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Why get it checked now?
A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Acting quickly usually means less damage overall. Blocked gutters on homes around Hanover overflow and soak walls, especially where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

How the survey works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Homes around Hanover often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

What you can safely check yourself
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Do you need a storm damage roof report in Hanover?
Storms don’t only affect pitched roofs. Coverings can tear or peel back at the edges, and water can pond where outlets are blocked. We record what we find on flat and pitched roofs alike.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
- Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
- New damp or leaks inside
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Elm Grove Primary School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Hanover: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Hanover?
Yes. Hanover is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Hanover, take more of a battering?
Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
How do I book a survey in Hanover?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we will recommend the right survey. We survey seven days a week.
What do I do if water is coming in?
Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. Take photos from ground level first if it is safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
