Drone roof survey in Aldwych, Greater London
Need a drone roof survey in Aldwych? We can help, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Weekday and weekend visits available.

- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
How it works
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In Aldwych, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed

About our drone roof survey in Aldwych
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about hidden gutters full of leaves and vegetation in valleys and gutters.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Aldwych is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Why it is worth a survey now in Aldwych
It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.

Checking the roof from ground level
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.
Aldwych questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Aldwych?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Aldwych?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
What will the report tell me?
A photo-illustrated written report, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
No, the camera is kept on your roof. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. It helps to tell neighbours beforehand.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. It sees only the outer surfaces. The underside tells us things the drone cannot, so we check the loft too where we can.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Aldwych
Aldwych is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. With Dr Johnson's House about 0.4 miles east, Aldwych sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
As a London address, Aldwych can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway when you book. For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary le Strand, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Aldwych?
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
Anyone responsible for a site like St Clement Danes CofE Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
