About our drone roof survey in Temple Bar
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Typical surveys look at outlets choked with leaves and silt and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, across fragile roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we are surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Tell us about the building and access when booking. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Temple Bar
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant, which helps when budgeting.
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Why get it checked now?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. In Temple Bar, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Book early if you’re near an airport
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.

What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.
What happens on the day
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. From the street, a London terrace typically shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Temple Bar we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
How to book
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
Advice
DIY checks: what’s safe
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Airspace, weather and Temple Bar roofs
The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 1 mile from Temple Bar. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which isn’t always given. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Temple Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. With Dr Johnson's House about 0.2 miles north-east, the area around Temple Bar has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you look after a building like St Clement Danes CofE Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Common questions in Temple Bar
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Temple Bar?
Sometimes, yes. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Temple Bar?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you work in Temple Bar?
Yes. We survey roofs in Temple Bar and the rest of Greater London. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
What do I do with the report?
You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it cannot see under the coverings. Where there is safe access, we check the loft space from inside.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
