Drone roof survey in Ashley, Hampshire

Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Ashley and the rest of Hampshire. We survey seven days a week.

  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Let us know what you want to see

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ashley

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are hidden gutters full of leaves and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

Some older homes in villages like Ashley are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

How the survey works

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Ashley, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice

Questions from Ashley

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ashley?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I find out if my home in Ashley is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Typically, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.

Do you work in Ashley?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Ashley.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

How long is the visit?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

How we price drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Height and safe access
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

What to let us know when you contact us

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

Why get it checked now?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Ashley, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Flying and imaging in Ashley

The wider area around Ashley has a long history of building, with Mottisfont Abbey about 4.3 miles south-west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Mary's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

When you need someone else

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
