Drone roof survey in Bay View: what you get
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are standing water on a flat roof and loose ridge and hip tiles.
Some older homes in villages like Bay View are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Bay View
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
Whether the property is in Bay View itself or nearby, the inspection covers whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

What happens if roof problems are left?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a small place like Bay View, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

What happens on the day
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Bay View can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Bay View: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bay View?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Bay View?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Do you work in Bay View?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Bay View.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Drones, thermal imaging and Bay View roofs
Bay View lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
In and around Bay View, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.
Bay View is about 4 miles east of Minster, in Kent. We visit Bay View as part of our work across Kent, for homes and businesses alike. Bay View is one of the places in Kent we cover. For surveys nearby, see our Canterbury page.
Surveys in ME12 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Mustards Road, Warden View Gardens and Danes Drive or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover the places around Bay View: Uplees (4 miles south), Oare (5 miles south), Conyer (5 miles south-west), Teynham Street (5 miles south-west) and The Brents (5 miles south). We also work in nearby towns such as Canterbury (11 miles south-east), Sittingbourne (8 miles south-west), Whitstable (7 miles south-east), Faversham (6 miles south), Herne Bay (10 miles east) and Minster (4 miles west).
What we can’t see
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
