Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Bowlhead Green
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most frequently book us about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and debris building up in hidden gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Bowlhead Green are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What a survey costs
To price your survey, we check:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Roof area
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to let us know when you contact us
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Where the property is, with the postcode
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Bowlhead Green
Is my home in Bowlhead Green listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Bowlhead Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What if my home is near an airport?
Sometimes, with permission. Airports like Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.
What if it is windy or raining on the day?
The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. If the weather turns, we’ll discuss another date.
What you can safely check yourself
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Bowlhead Green
An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Michael and All Angels are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For any home in Bowlhead Green, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older rural homes like those around Bowlhead Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare

Tips from our surveys
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Tell us the exact address when booking
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Bowlhead Green
A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
