Drone roof survey in Bowling Alley: what you get
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a report with photos. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We’re often asked to look into plant growth and moss on the roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.
In a village or hamlet like Bowling Alley, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Bowling Alley
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- A structural engineer’s report
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Tips from our surveys
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Let us know what you want to see
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
What we do, step by step
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Bowling Alley needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Before the survey
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Find any records of previous roof work
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Advice
Bowling Alley: your questions answered
Is Bowling Alley within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Bowling Alley?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
How long is the visit?
It typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Why it is worth a survey now in Bowling Alley
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Older cottages and farmhouses around Bowling Alley can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Drone roof surveys around Bowling Alley
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Take an older house close to Church of All Saints: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Take a building like St Nicholas' School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
Farnham Castle, about 3.1 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Bowling Alley. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Their insurance cover
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
