Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Brandy Hole
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. Common reasons to book are moss and weeds taking hold up top and debris building up in hidden gutters, on large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.
Some older homes in villages like Brandy Hole are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How the survey works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older rural homes like those around Brandy Hole can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Check we can get to the back of the property
Getting a price

What we cannot see
We only report what can safely be seen on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Brandy Hole questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Brandy Hole?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Brandy Hole listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You will then get the report by email.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.
Do you look in the roof space?
Where it is relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Drone roof surveys in Brandy Hole: local notes
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Thomas' Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Take a building like Riverside Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely.
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Checking the roof from ground level
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What a survey costs
To price your survey, we check:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
What to let us know when you get in touch
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It is useful to include:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What made you get in touch
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We will confirm the price before booking.
