Drone roof surveys near Burcot

Drone roof survey in Burcot

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are moss and weeds taking hold up top and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.

Villages like Burcot often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Burcot

To price your survey, we look at:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • Which survey package you book
  • The roof’s overall size

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.

What happens on the day

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Burcot, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Keep pets in another room
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Drone roof surveys in Burcot: local notes

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Historic houses such as Clifton Hampden Manor, about 1.2 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Burcot goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Saint Mary and Saint Berin, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Burcot, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

Before and after the survey

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

What you can safely check yourself

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Why get it checked now?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. Older and listed buildings around Burcot may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Burcot: your questions answered

Is my home in Burcot listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Burcot?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

What do I do with the report?

You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

What we’re asked to look at in Burcot

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Abbey Woods Academy, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Will the report include photos?
