Drone Roof Survey in Burstow
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Burstow. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
What you can safely check yourself
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Drone roof survey in Burstow: what you get
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’ve noticed moss building up on slopes and in gutters and debris building up in hidden gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a small place like Burstow, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What we do, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes an hour or two for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Burstow can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Advice
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Burstow
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Burstow?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Are there drone restrictions around Burstow?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Burstow is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Gatwick Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
What do I do with the report?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Why act early in Burstow
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Outbuildings and barns around Burstow are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Flying and imaging in Burstow
The flight restriction zone around Gatwick Airport covers Burstow, or comes right up to its edge. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
If you look after a building such as Oakwood School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Bartholomew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Shop and office owners around County Mall may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

When you need someone else
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.
