Drone roof survey in Bush Hill

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. Typical surveys look at coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, across large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Bush Hill, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Bush Hill

Is drone flying allowed in Bush Hill?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Bush Hill?

It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

What will the report tell me?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Is Bush Hill in your area?

Yes. We survey roofs in Bush Hill and the rest of Greater London. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

Airspace, weather and Bush Hill roofs

Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Grange Park Methodist Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. As a London address, Bush Hill can be tricky for parking: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway when booking, as a space near the door can’t be promised.

What we are asked to look at in Bush Hill

Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

Forty Hall, about 2.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Bush Hill. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What to expect from a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In Bush Hill, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In Bush Hill, as in much of London, lots of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when booking.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Advice

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
