Drone roof survey in California, Wokingham
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in California, and put it all in a report with photos.
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Flashings that have come away
Drone roof survey in California: what you get
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’re worried about moss building up on slopes and in gutters and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, we can find out what’s behind it, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs alike.
In a village or hamlet like California, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

How we price drone roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Height and safe access
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.
Helping us price your survey
We’ll typically ask about:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Anything about access we should know
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What else we do in California
Drone roof surveys around California
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take a building like Gorse Ride Junior School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Landlords, agents and block managers in California
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
What we do, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like California, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
Checking the roof from the ground
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Check the loft can be reached
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in California
Will you come out to California?
Yes. California is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in California?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.
How much is a survey?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
When to book a survey in California
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
If you live in an older home near Church of St James, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
